These cups are ideal for drinking sake or tea as in many countries in the East. The vessels also work well for tea lights or to hold little treasures.
Porcelain is the strongest of clays and the most difficult to handle during the making process. These cups are part of the Earth Etchings Collection, where a refined clay slip containing minerals & oxides is applied by hand during the most fragile stage, referred to as bone dry. The outcome is one unique coloration each time, and varieties in color, texture, and application will give the cups their distinctive appearance.
The vessels you receive will vary from the pictures as they will be specifically for you. The asymmetry, roughness, and irregularities of the cup are expressions of a human-made object.
Our ceramics embrace the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi. Although there is no exact translation in English, it connotes rustic simplicity and the beauty that is imperfect as found in nature.
