Drawing inspiration from Ebru, the ancient art of marbling, this class will guide you in transforming raw clay into functional art with a focus on unique surface design. Just like Ebru, where no two patterns are the same, you’ll explore techniques that celebrate individuality and one-of-a-kind results. Perfect for beginners and seasoned artists alike, this class will have everyone embracing the art of unpredictability while exploring the essentials of hand-building.
You'll use our slab technique to learn the basics of hand-building tableware. Get hands-on with clay's natural quirks, shaping pieces that reflect everyone's individual style. Along the way, we’ll talk, laugh, and share the fun. By the end, you’ll feel like a kids again, working with porcelain (dirt’s refined cousin) and leave with both beautiful pieces and an unforgettable experience.
It will take about 2-4 weeks for our team to glaze and fire it. We’ll notify you by email or phone when they're ready for pickup, so you can all enjoy one-of-a-kind masterpieces that are as practical as they are beautiful.
This workshop is taught by Niovi Forbes, founder of OXUM NYC. She will share lessons from over 25 years of design experience and guide you so you can tap into your creativity. This highly experiential workshop has a holistic learning, making, and transforming approach.
